How to Apply Badge to Your Everyday Professional Life

Becoming a better presenter can also help you become a better professional in general. With What’s Your Presentation Persona?, readers not only discover their full potential as a public speaker, but can apply what they learn to other parts of their life. Here’s how you can apply Badge to your everyday professional life.

Address Your Weaknesses

Like most personality tests, the presentation persona you get after taking the Badge assessment will detail areas for improvement. Based on our four quadrants of Exploration, Sharing, Response and Durability, everyone will have a different set of strengths and weaknesses. Take mine for instance; My lowest score is in Sharing because I tend to have limited interactions with my audience. I apply these ideas to my professional life. I focus more on how I connect with my client. I try harder to get to know them and make their time with me feel special.

Embrace Your Strengths

The flip side of knowing your weaknesses is accepting your strengths. Some people have an easier time showcasing their strengths than others. Knowing your strengths will allow you to be more confident. I have score high in Exploration because of the amount of time I put into research, planning and preparing a presentation. Instead of stressing over how much time I should spend reviewing a client’s work, I feel more confident going into meetings because I know that I like to over-prepare.

Establish a Support System

Inside What’s Your Presentation Persona?, you will find advice for the types of people you should be surrounding yourself with, and the types of people you should avoid. By forming the right friendships at work, you can find ways to advance in your career. It really is about who you know rather than what you know in some careers. By becoming more aware of the types of people who will help you rise, you can increase your chances to reach your full potential.

Weighing Out the Pros and Cons

With every career, there always comes a series of tough decisions. Sometimes we aren’t sure if we should accept a new job offer, or if we should approach our boss to ask for a pay raise. By getting to know personality better, you can find better guidance for asking the tough questions. Maybe you need to invest more time in researching the new company you want to work for before calling them back; or maybe you need to rehearse how you want to approach your boss about the pay raise in the mirror before you schedule a meeting. Research and rehearsing are tips we suggest for every presenter, but try them in other areas of your professional life as well.

After I took the Badge assessment and read up on my presentation persona, I feel like I know myself better than before. My persona aligns closely to areas that I already know I am comfortable in or vulnerable in. With the tips and advice offered in What’s Your Presentation Persona?, I find myself growing more confident in both my strengths and weakness because I have a better understanding of them. I encourage you to take our Badge assessment and discover your unique communication style, then apply that knowledge to all areas of your life.
