Behind the Design: Inspiring Productivity With Our “Work Smarter” Video

When we picture our ideal client, we imagine a busy professional working hard for their company and looking to save some time wherever possible. The busier the better, since Ethos3’s purpose is to take over presentation design from companies of all sizes that don’t have the manpower or experience to DIY their pitch deck.

A lot of our content marketing efforts are about appealing to these types of busy pros, who are looking for fast tips and short videos that can help them in their day-to-day. What better way to show off our muscle and appeal to our perfect client than with a fast video, packed with tips?

We researched five fast productivity tips, and combined them into a final design piece that was shared on our site and various social media channels. How can you inject the same content marketing strategy into your own blogs, presentations, and other materials? Check out the finished product below, and then we’ll dive into what we learned.

Start by knowing your audience

One reason that the “Work Smarter” video boosted our marketing efforts in such a huge way is because we knew the demographic we wished to grab. Do you know your ideal customer persona? Fill in the blanks to learn what kind of job they have, what they like to do on the weekends, what their frustrations are, and their hopes and dreams. Painting a portrait of this potential consumer will help you create content that is specific to their needs and will bring them to your site.

Make it worth their time

The “Work Smarter” video is just over one minute long, which means that each fact is featured every 10 seconds. When you consider that the modern attention span only averages 8 seconds, including a fact about every 10 is an ideal way to keep people watching. Most people at work only have time for bite-sized distractions in between emails, conference calls, and meetings. Make sure whatever you create is worth their time, and appeals to short attention spans.

Keep on trend

We can’t write a “behind the design” piece without a nod to the beautiful flat illustration and movement throughout the video. This asset feels like a fresh, modern design because it uses trending techniques to capture attention. Illustration is the order of the day, but things may change whenever you create your own marketing materials. Make sure all of your work has contemporary visual appeal, or your consumers may avoid what they see as dated design.
