Presenting with an iPhone

You may have heard of the notion of an elevator pitch. The idea is to streamline your concept so that it can be told in the little bit of time you might by chance share the elevator with a person you want to impress. This way you are always prepared to be at the right place and the right time. While some ideas never change, they do get better with age. Why not go the whole route, making an elevator slideshow presentation? Of course, for this to work, you would have to have your slides with you at all times, ready to show at a moment’s notice. The good news is, we’re finally living in an age where this is a reality. With nothing but an iPhone (which, if you own one, is an item you have with you all of the time) you can put on just as stunning and as lasting of a presentation on the go as you would in front of a video screen.

Powerpoint on the Go

Consider your iPhone (or any other smart phone) a portable presentation machine. With its huge 3.5 inch (diagonally) screen and 480 X 320 pixel resolution this little device can present clear, crisp images that can be zoomed in with the touch of a finger. Best of all? It has the ability to open Powerpoint presentations that have been attached via e-mail. That means you’re never than a few taps away from giving a short slideshow on the fly.

Improvisation, iPhone Style

Even if you don’t use Powerpoint, however, you can still utilize the iPhone to create a portable slideshow. Load a sequence of images or slides in order on your phone’s memory card. From there you can easily get an impromptu idea into someone’s head by simply cycling through the slides in your photo book, the way you would cycle through a slideshow. There may not be any fancy transitions or animations, but you can still leaving a lasting impression.

It’s Still a Presentation!

Do not be fooled by the size of the presentation media into thinking you can wing it, however. Be prepared just like you would if you were giving the same speech in front of a large crowd instead of just one person. The point is to impress somebody with your concept, not to assail them with your photos. So the next time you’re stuck in an elevator with someone you want to get your ideas to, consider using the tools you have at hand to deliver a memorable presentation. Just make sure to have the files you need stored on the phone’s memory device and you are good to go. Oh, and you might want to have a mint on you just in case. Getting into someone’s personal bubble to give a presentation might not go as well as you had planned if you’ve still got garlic on your breath from lunch. Like the Boy Scouts say, always be prepared!
