Where to Look for Color Inspiration

Color is all around us—now more than ever. The psychology of color as it relates to persuasion is quite compelling. Finding the right color variety is integral to your presentation’s success. Even still, with all the options surrounding us today, sometimes it can all get quite overwhelming. We are constantly inundated with marketing and design that it can feel impossible to have an original color palette for your next presentation. We know how difficult it can be to find color inspiration, so we have compiled a few different strategies for the next time you need somewhere to look.

Go for a Walk

It is easy to get stuck in a rut when you are seeing the same things all the time. This is especially true in our current shelter-in-place social climate. Now, more than ever, it is important to leave the space where you are spending all of your time and let your brain explore. Go on a walk and take a left where you would normally take a right. Go up the steep hill that you usually avoid. These things will help your eyes see new patterns, textures and colors that may just give you that much-needed color inspiration.

Study Your Competition

Looking to your peers for color inspiration may seem strange; but bear with me. A proven strategy for winning color combinations has often been a deviation from competitors. If you’re opening a new restaurant and all of the restaurants in your area have bright colors, a muted color palette may just garner the attention you crave. Take the time to see what those around you are doing, then find a way to challenge it and go the other direction. Having something fresh and new to offer the marketplace calls for a fresh new take on marketing, as well.

Hit the Mall-

Alright, walking the halls at your local plaza may not be physically possible for a few more weeks. However, there are a few different ways to do this before the economy fully opens back up. Take a drive to some outdoor strip malls and window-shop for design inspiration. Another idea is to shop online and see what companies are doing in their virtual space. Seek out new stores you might not normally gravitate toward in order to widen the scope of what you are experiencing visually.

It’s easy to do things the way you have always done them. True visionaries are always looking for ways to challenge norms and shake things up.
