5 Things You Need to Know About Microsoft Sway

With technology being at an all-time high and an increasing number of professionals working remotely, more and more presenters are finding the need to design and deliver presentations on the go.

Well, Microsoft’s Sway is the answer mobile presenters have been looking for. Designed with the mobile presenter in mind, Sway is an app that truly makes it a breeze to create presentations from your phone or tablet. It takes the necessary functionality from PowerPoint and completely reimagines it with a mobile interface that looks nothing like PowerPoint but has all of its primary capabilities.

Despite the app’s purposeful simplicity, though, there is a bit of a learning curve given that it’s so different than what PowerPoint users are used to. The following tips will help you get the most out of this app so you can design a perfect presentation every time.

Embed With Ease
Embedding any sort of media from social sites and the web is necessary to a lot of presentations but can also be a huge pain in the butt on mobile. Well, not with Sway, The app eliminates the need to copy, save, and paste from outside destinations in order to embed. Instead, it has a built-in search field that allows you to grab content from virtually any online source and load it seamlessly into your presentation.

View Content With Clarity
One of the obvious limitations of mobile is that it has a smaller surface area to display items, which can make things crowded and confusing when trying to get the big picture of your presentation. Sway does a great job of combatting that with its easy navigation view. With just a touch of your finger, you can see an overview of your entire presentation that displays each slide as small thumbnails that you can easily scroll through and rearrange.

Count Your Viewers
If you’re particularly proud of your presentation or your aim is to get your message in front of as many viewers as possible, then you’ll love this feature. When you upload any Sway presentation to the web, it’ll automatically count the number of views it gets so you can see how wide your reach is. But if you’d rather keep your presentation private, it’s easy to adjust the privacy settings so that the public can’t check it out.

Easy Voice Recording
A lot of us find it easier to convey our ideas out loud rather than writing them down. Or, you might find that you’re sharing a presentation that you won’t be present for, in which case you want to add a voiceover narration. With Sway’s straightforward voice recording option, you can do either of those things with ease by directly recording your voice to the presentation.

Add Closed Captioning
Whether you want to caption your presentation to make it more accessible to people with hearing impairments or you want to translate it into another language, Sway’s closed captioning feature makes it a cinch. All you have to do is add a new video or audio card to the app, hit the “Details” button, then touch “Add closed caption” to select your file. You can also easily turn closed captioning on or off depending on your needs.
