Presentation Design Inspiration: Robert Beatty

This week’s Presentation Design Inspiration is graphic artist Robert Beatty. Based out of Lexington, Kentucky, Beatty’s designs draw inspiration from artwork like the 1960s and 1970s sci-fi genre and psychedelic album covers. Two words to describe his designs: fantastic and surreal.

His artwork blurs the line between computer-generated collage and analog fine art techniques. Beatty’s style varies from a glitched-out photocopy look, to rich and delicate airbrush motifs. His work takes place in some dimension where the past and future meld into one. Applying Beatty’s style to your presentation design is sure to make your PowerPoint stand out and leave an impact on the audience.

His artwork can be found on album covers. The Washington Post said Beatty has “become a one-man industry of psychedelic album art.” HIs work has been featured on covers for artists like The Flaming Lips, Tame Impala, Real Estate, and Thee Oh Sees.

You can also see his work published in The New York Times and Wired Magazine. For instance, his designs served as cover art for a fictional short story by Jeanne Thornton titled, “The L-7 Gene: Surprise! Mom Cloned You – Sort Of.” This is just another example of how Beatty’s stylized approach is being used on various platforms.

Robert Beatty’s images are complex and surreal, often including wild and foreign landscapes, and alien-like, Dali-inspired creatures. This unique eye for the obscure makes him a designer to be on the look-out for when it comes to thinking outside of the box. If you need a dose of inspiration for your presentation design, Beatty’s work will do the trick.
