This week’s presentation design inspiration is Jessica Hische. She is well known for her lettering and illustrations. Her work can be found on book covers, advertisements, and movie posters. Hische also likes to work on various projects involving lettering.

One of her favorite types of design is drop cap lettering. She runs a side project called Daily Drop Cap where she features her designs with a featured drop cap each day. Her drop cap work can add a creative touch to your presentation design.

Her designs can be found on classic book covers like “Pride and Prejudice” and “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” that are sold in bookstores. Hische herself wrote a book called “In Progress: See Inside a Lettering Artist’s Sketchbook and Process, from Pencil to Vector” which is about her lettering process. Currently, Hische says she is working on a children’s book.

Hische says each of her letters are unique and she never uses the same one more than once. In an interview with Team Treehouse, Hische says, “lettering is like a very weird mix of graphic design and illustration. It’s like illustrations of words. So it’s far more on the illustrations side than it is the graphic design side. Even though designers want to have it as theirs because they think of typography being in their realm.” Her type of lettering can also be used in presentation design as part of your approach to making words jump off the slides.

Her work also encompasses web design. She created an online flow chart called, “Should I Work For Free?” that became popular online. This showcases her talent and skill for coding, printing and unique presentation design.

Hische is originally from Charleston, South Carolina and graduated from the Tyler School of Art with a degree in Graphic and Interactive Design. She currently works at Title Case in San Francisco, California.
