How to Make Your Presentations Stand Out in the Digital Economy

30 million. That’s the number of PowerPoint presentations delivered daily. People spend roughly 15 million hours in front of presenters every day. In the digital economy, the quality of a presentation matters. It’s the difference between your ideas being seen and your ideas being shared. Are your presentations providing value to your audiences? In the digital economy, a strong and insightful online presence is crucial for any presenter. Freelancer Bethany Johnson recently wrote an article about the ways to reach those clients, customers, or audiences that you dream to impact. To stand out in the freelance writing market, Johnson had to engage in smart market research. Likewise, for a presenter to stand out in the digital landscape, he or she must conduct some of their own market research. Here are a few ways presenters can create presentations hyper-targeted to their unique audiences:

Google Trends and Google Alerts

For the presenter who hopes to craft a shareable presentation, staying abreast of changes in an industry and keeping up with news circulating in a field should be a priority. Attack your presentation topic from all sides through the use of Google Trends and Google Alerts. Take the 30,000 feet view with Google Trends – remaining aware of each day’s top stories.

Then, zoom in on your specific area of interest by setting up Google Alerts, which will track all recent stories and news items related to your particular categories.

Quora

Approximately 775,000 users across the United States flock to Quora monthly, according to Quantcast. The platform provides presenters with the opportunity to interact with their dream audiences, to learn from them, and to establish expertise and credibility around the topics of interest to them. Quora allows presenters to form targeted questions, publish original content, and receive updates on questions they are most interested in following and answering.

Customer Reviews and Feedback

Maybe you are giving a presentation about one of your most popular products. A sure-fire way to set your presentation apart from the rest is to use the digital economy to your advantage. Your customers and consumers are constantly sending feedback and reviews of your products and services to you online. Oftentimes, people talk about products in terms of experiences: how it feels to watch a certain brand’s TV set with a loved one, the feelings surrounding a wedding ring someone’s wife wears everyday, and the messes a mom cleans up after her kids with a specific brand of paper towels. These experiences provide presenters with plenty of material to incorporate into their presentation’s storytelling narrative.

For a presenter to shine in the digital economy, he or she will need to leverage that digital economy through Google Trends and Google Alerts, Quora, and Customer reviews and feedback. If you want to reach a different audience with your presentations, you will need to conduct the appropriate market research and accrue credibility in the space.
