Just a few days ago Donald J. Trump became the 45th president of the United States. What you will see below is his entire Inaugural Address.
This Inaugural Address is full of thankfulness, optimism (with some negativity), and a call to unite all Americans by even quoting Psalm 133 at the end of his speech.
So, how would I score Donald Trump or what would be his persona? Based on this short speech, I would score him as a Performer where he holds true to his typical approach scoring mid-low in 3 of the 4 quadrants which includes Exploration, Response, and Durability and high in the Sharing quadrant.
Here is my explanation:
Trump’s approach seems genuine by opening with a line like “We, the citizens of America, are now joined in a great national effort to rebuild our country and restore its promise for all of our people.” I also have to applaud his use of repetition at the end where he states: “We will make America wealthy again. We will make America proud again. We will make America safe again. And yes, together, we will make America great again.” However, after further analysis of the transcript, his address still lacks depth and is overly aggressive which alienates a large part of the American people.
Trump is Trump. His thoughts are delivered simply. His words are easy to follow. His message is easy to digest. He does all of this with confidence and a magnetism which is all a big part of his mass appeal.
I can’t say with confidence that his address appeals to the masses. It is aggressive and it bit negative. A testament to this approach are lines like “the very sad depletion of our military” or “one by one, the factories shuttered and left our shores with not even a thought about the millions and millions of American workers that were left behind.” It’s a bit dismal for my taste. However, he eventually follows up with lines of optimism: “We will bring back our jobs. We will bring back our borders. We will bring back our wealth, and we will bring back our dreams. We will build new roads and highways and bridges and airports and tunnels and railways all across our wonderful nation. We will get our people off of welfare and back to work rebuilding our country with American hands and American labor. We will follow two simple rules — buy American and hire American.” I like that he shifts to optimism but his negativity in the beginning of his talk was too alienating.
Trump’s simplicity makes him loved by the majority, but it also his downfall. Simplicity is great, but simple doesn’t change the world.
Donald Trump is a presenter who either is loved or hated. He is tactful and magnetic which makes him a perfect Performer.
