A Must-Have Presentation Checklist

Don’t let the stress of a big presentation cause your stomach to erupt in worry ulcers; take some time to fully prepare on the day you are set to deliver by running through this handy checklist. This includes items to double-and-triple check about your appearance, emergency items to bring with you, technology backup, and handout prep:

Your Appearance

Think of us as your worried mother, making sure that you don’t leave the house without checking:

Do your jewelry or accessories make any noise when you walk?

Have you been drinking the right things?

Are your clothes ironed?

Are there any mysterious stains or spots on your clothes?

Do you have a backup outfit in case something goes wrong?

Are your shoes polished?

Do you have any stray hairs?

Can you remove or put on a coat in the event of an overly hot or cold room?

Have you put on too much perfume or cologne?

Have you showered?

Have you eaten the right things beforehand?

Your Backup Gear

In the event of an emergency, no matter how small, bring these items along with you:

Mints

Stain removal cloths

Chargers

USB device(s) with your presentation in multiple formats

Small hair comb

Dental floss

Backup laptop to present on as a last resort

A water bottle

A banana

Extra business cards

A physical copy of presentation notes

Your Tech

Technological mishaps can stop your presentation before it even starts. Make sure you’ve got these points covered:

Does your presentation have sound and require backup speakers?

Do you have the presentation saved in multiple formats (PDF, Keynote, PowerPoint) and easily accessible?

Do you have the correct (or multiple) adaptor cords to sync up with the screens or computers at the location?

Are you bringing your own projector or screen?

Can you access your presentation through email, file hosting site, or USB?

Is the necessary software downloaded on the equipment you will be using?

Will you need to bring an extra projector bulb?

Your Handouts

Don’t fumble during the last stretch of your presentation! Prepare your presentation handouts by double-checking the following:

Are all the handouts you’ll need printed out (plus a few extra)?

Is the quality consistent from page to page?

Are your handouts stored in an accident-proof folder or container?

Have they been stapled and placed in order beforehand?

Take a few calming breaths and check this list twice, as Santa does, before you head out the door to deliver your next big presentation or speech. Trust us, you’ll be glad you brought mints after the complimentary onion bagels.

Question: Have you double-checked this list?
