Presentation Tech: The TouchPico

We like staying on top of our tech game when it comes to new gadgets for presentations. That’s why we let out a collective cheer when we heard about the TouchPico, an interactive projector with touch interface and wireless streaming. Made by TouchJet in Singapore, it was voted one of the Top 25 Launches at CES ’14. Excited presenters will have to wait, however, since it won’t begin shipping until June 2014. So, what makes the TouchPico so special?

The Specs

At core, the TouchPico is a projector about the size of a smart phone, embedded with an Android 4.0 processor, SD memory, Wi-Fi, HDMI input, audio output (awesome!), wireless mouse support, 854×480 pixel resolution, and a projection with 260 lumens of brightness. The Android processor means that you can download apps from Google Play and project them using infrared tech, with an image span of up to 60 inches.

The Stylus

Where does the “Touch” come from in TouchPico? Using the projector and a special stylus called the Unique Touch Pointer, you can convert any surface into a “touchscreen” that can interact with Android apps. The secret behind this technology is a built-in infrared camera that follows the stylus with pinpoint accuracy, which means it could be used to work on your presentations before you deliver it. Or perhaps play a ton of Android games?

Wireless Streaming

Wireless streaming is also a draw for the TouchPico, which can be controlled from a Mac or PC using a mouse, or an Android phone in conjunction with the smartphone touchscreen. This is a huge plus for presenters who want to use their iOS-based software like Keynote, or other non-Android available programs.

Pricing

The suggested retail price for the June release is $500.00, which isn’t too crazy when you consider that most portable projectors fall in the $200-500 dollar range and don’t come with as many interactive features. Also, the device is tiny. So tiny it could fit into a back pocket, and it can run off either a battery or a wall charger. For an active presenter that wants more than a bulky, expensive projection device, the TouchPico is a revelation in the current market. We can’t wait to get our hands on it!

Question: Could the TouchPico be a good tech solution for your next presentation?
